Providence High School Renovations

The Providence Public School Department renovated Science Labs and Classrooms at Hope High School, Mt. Pleasant High School and Classical High School. The projects consisted of solar photovoltaic and solar thermal installations, and a renovation of the existing science wings in each high school as well as the adjacent corridor and bathroom spaces. Each of these three schools received ten new science labs and classrooms encompassing approximately 60,000 square feet in total.

Stephen Turner Inc. provided commissioning services from 2010 to 2012 to meet the Northeast Collaborative for High Performance Schools (NE-CHPS) prerequisite commissioning requirements. The commissioned systems included air handling units, high efficiency condensing boilers, solar thermal domestic hot water system, photovoltaic arrays and inverters, lighting and automatic lighting controls, and Building Automation Systems.

Each of the projects feature an educational viewing room where the photovoltaic inverters, the solar domestic hot water heaters, and related equipment are located, so that students can learn about alternative energy solutions as integrated into the building systems in their own school.
